Thousands of people have gathered in front of Buckingham Palace in London to mourn the death of Queen Elizabeth II.  Just then, a pair of rainbows were seen above the palace.  This rare sight was seen in the sky after torrential rain across the capital on Thursday afternoon.

As news of the Queen's deteriorating health spread, people began to gather in front of Buckingham Palace.  Countless well-wishers poured in after his death.

Earlier on Thursday, Queen Elizabeth II died at Balmoral Castle.  'The Queen passed away peacefully at Balmoral on Thursday afternoon,' Buckingham Palace, her royal residence, said in a statement.

Queen Elizabeth's summer residence was at Balmoral Castle in Scotland.  The Queen confirmed Liz Truss as the UK's new Prime Minister in a ceremony at the palace on Tuesday (September 6).

Queen Elizabeth II has ruled Britain for the longest time.  Elizabeth Alexandra Mary was the first child of the Duke and Duchess of York (later King George and Queen Elizabeth) in Mayfair, London.  The time was 21 April 1926.

His father succeeded his brother King Edward VIII to the throne in 1936.  From then on, the heir to the throne was 10-year-old Elizabeth.  The 17-year wait ended in 1953.  27-year-old Elizabeth took the crown of the British Empire on June 2 of this year.  But when King George died a year earlier on February 6, 1952, Elizabeth became Queen.

Elizabeth was educated privately at the palace.  During the Second World War, she joined the Women's Division of the British Army-Auxiliary Territorial Service and began her public service.

In 1947, Elizabeth married Philip, the former Prince of Greece and Denmark, Duke of Edinburgh.  The couple has four children;  Prince Charles of Wales, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew, Duke of York and Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex.

The world's longest-reigning British ruler has often faced criticism for republican sentiment and pressure from the royal family.  After the death of daughter-in-law Diana in 1997, Elizabeth was widely criticized.

The Queen was staying at Ballymore Castle in Scotland for her summer vacation.  It was from there that the news of Rani's illness first came to light.

It is reported that the Queen will not be able to return to Buckingham Palace in London to appoint the new Prime Minister due to travel problems.  So Liz Truss was appointed from Scotland for the first time during the Queen's 70-year reign.

Two days later, the Queen canceled a scheduled meeting with the new Prime Minister on Thursday.  It was reported that the physical condition of the queen is serious.  He is under doctor's observation.  Buckingham Palace finally confirmed the news of his death on Thursday evening London time
