A schoolboy has died after falling from a tree in Faridpur's Saltha after climbing a blackberry tree.
The accident took place at noon on Thursday at Uttar Purura village in Bhawal union of the upazila. From generation to generation, superstition has been involved in the village about that blackberry tree. The child cared little for that superstition and climbed the tree.
The deceased was identified as Abir Sheikh. Abir, 10, is the son of Billal Sheikh, a farmer from Mirakanda village. He is a 3rd class student of Purura Government Primary School.
Confirming the matter, a housewife in her thirties, a resident of Uttar Purura village and an eyewitness to the incident, said that on Wednesday afternoon, Abir climbed the tree and went to pick the jam. He was forbidden to climb trees. But he did not listen. Then he suddenly fell from the tree and died on the spot.
Shahin, a resident of Uttar Purura village and Abir's brother-in-law, said the tree has been associated with superstition since ancient times. The elders said, "If anyone climbs that tree, he must first throw seven berries down." One of the following has to be crushed at the base of the cherry tree. Mamun Sardar, a member of Ward 4 of Bhawal Union, said the village is Hindupara. That tree is very old and big. The Hindus of the area also worship at that tree. Satya Member was there during the flood of '7. Then I was younger. But at that time we heard that people saw a lot of things under that tree.
However, many people did not follow the rules before and fell from the trees but were not killed. He mentioned that Abir was the first to die in this way.
In this regard, the chairman of Bhawal Union Md. Farooquzzaman said, he has heard about the incident. He himself climbed a tree and fell many times as a child. However, the news of the child's death is sad. Upon learning of the matter, they arranged for the body to be handed over to the family without an autopsy.
