A madrasa student named Tamim Sheikh (11) was killed when he was hit by a battery-powered easybike at Nazirpur in Pirojpur.
The accident took place in Dakshin Vaijora (Dakatia) area of Matibhanga union of the upazila on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Tamim Sheikh, son of Saiful Islam Sheikh of North Chalitabari village under Matibhanga union of the upazila. He is a student of Hifz department of Tarabunia Khademul Islam Madrasa.
Madrasa teacher Rabiul Islam (head of cadet department) said Saiful was studying at the madrasa. But on the day of the incident, he had lunch and went home to fetch money.
Eyewitness Emdadul Haque Mollah, the student's grandfather, said he was standing on the side of the road in front of the house when he returned to the madrasa a little later in the evening with some money from his mother. At that time, when a fast moving easybike was pushed, he fell on the spot and bled profusely. After the accident, the driver left the easybike and went to Pali. At this time we quickly brought him to Nazirpur Upazila Health Complex.
Dr. Dipanbita Debnath, a doctor at the emergency department of Nazirpur Upazila Health Complex, said that the child had suffered a lot of bleeding due to head injury. He died before being brought to the hospital.
Nazirpur Police Station Officer (OC) Md Humayun Kabir said, "We have seized the easybike from the spot and a case has been filed against the driver under the Road Transport Act." Attempts are being made to arrest the accused.
