Eleven people are still missing after a ferry sank in Indonesia. 31 people have been rescued. An official of the country said this on Monday.
A ferry sank off the coast of Makassar in South Sulawesi province on Thursday after running out of fuel oil and bad weather.
Junaidi, head of the local rescue team, said 31 people had been rescued so far. 11 people are still missing.
He added that rescue operations were being carried out in the area up to 20 nautical miles from where the ferry sank. Helicopters were also deployed in the rescue operation.
Junaidi said the ship was not allowed to carry passengers. Its captain and owner have been detained for questioning.
Indonesia, which is made up of about 16,000 islands, has frequent naval accidents.
