Messi's World Cup journey stops in Qatar

Lionel Messi is passing the last years of his football career, he is past 35 and 36 years old.  Having played in the World Cup for the first time in 2006, Qatar will be the last World Cup for the Argentine magician.  Lionel Messi himself made such an announcement on Thursday (October 6).

Messi said this in an interview given to Argentine journalist Sebastian Viniolo.  According to him, 'This is going to be my last World Cup, that's for sure.  I have taken this decision.

Messi played in the World Cup for the first time in 2006.  He got a chance to play in three matches in Germany.  Where he scored a goal as well as an assist.  His team, Argentina, was eliminated from the quarter-finals.  Messi had to sit on the bench in the first match of the group stage and in the quarter-finals.

The 2010 World Cup was forgettable for Messi.  Even though he played 90 minutes in all the matches in that tournament, he could not score more than one goal, nor did he have any assists.  Argentina are also eliminated from the last eight.  Messi's Argentina was the runner-up in the next World Cup, but they lost to Germany in the final.  Messi scored 4 goals and 1 assist throughout the tournament, winning the Man of the Tournament award.

The last World Cup in Russia did not go well for Messi and his team.  They have to depart from the last sixteen with a broken team.  In addition to one goal, Messi was able to make 2 assists.
