Bus falls from bridge into river in Madhya Pradesh, 13 killed

13 people were killed in a terrible bus accident in Madhya Pradesh, India.  15 injured people have already been rescued.  Six of them are in critical condition.  Many passengers are still missing.

 The accident happened on Monday.

It is known that a government bus was heading towards Pune from Indore in Maharashtra.  In between, the bus broke the railing of a bridge in Khalghat area of Madhya Pradesh and fell about a hundred feet down into the Narmada river.  It is believed that the accident happened because the road was slippery due to heavy rain.  However, the possibility of mechanical failure cannot be ruled out.

There were about 50 passengers in the bus at the time of the accident.  Due to the heavy rains, the water flow and height in the river was also much higher than normal.  As a result, the bus completely submerged in the river.  Immediately after the accident, the National Disaster Response Force (NDF) was called into rescue operations on wartime basis.  Meanwhile, a team of district administration officials has reached the spot.

Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra said that an investigation will be conducted to find out the cause of the accident.  Besides, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee have made deep disclosures about the accident.
