According to CNN, the restaurant is located in Leshan City, Sichuan Province, China. The footprints found there belong to two sauropod dinosaurs.
Lida Xing said that sauropod dinosaurs with narrow long necks, long tails, small heads and large bodies roamed the earth during the Cretaceous period. He is an associate professor at China University of Geosciences.
According to CNN, Professor Leeder's team confirmed the discovery of dinosaur footprints using a 3D scanner last Saturday.
Sauropod dinosaurs are considered the largest animals to ever walk the earth. They were the length of three school buses. They were so heavy that the ground trembled wherever they walked.
Lida Xing said the two dinosaur footprints they identified were probably 8 meters, or 26 feet, long.
Of the Jurassic dinosaur fossils found in Sichuan Province so far, very few are from the Cretaceous period. Lida Xing said that dinosaurs had their greatest spread on earth during the Cretaceous period.
He said, “China has developed rapidly economically in the last few decades. This has made it difficult to find and work with fossils of ancient animals. Finding fossils in the city is now difficult. They are being covered by big buildings.”
That is why the leader team has decided that his team will reach there within 48 hours after getting the news of finding possible fossils somewhere. They fear that if not, construction work will start there within a few days and these ancient resources will be destroyed.
The restaurant where the dinosaur footprints were found was once a chicken farm. And the footprints were covered in garbage and sand. That is why they are saved from decay.
When the restaurant opened about a year ago, the garbage was cleared. There were naturally random stones. The restaurant owner liked the stone arrangement so much that he left it as it was.
He didn't even put cement coating there. As a result, dinosaur footprints have been discovered as they were in the rock.
Professor Lida said, "Because there is no construction work at the site, the footprints remain intact." We went there and found the footprints very deep and very clear. But others probably didn't think about it. The restaurant owner has built a fence around it so that no one from outside can go there.”
“He is also thinking of building a cover over the place to make it more secure. This is a sign of growing interest in science among people and welcoming it.”
This professor also thinks that the common people of China are now much more aware than before. "If it had been discovered 10 years ago, no one would have sent me a picture thinking it could be a dinosaur footprint or a fossil," he said.
"But now I get some such pictures from ordinary people and every year I confirm the discovery of several dinosaur footprints."
