5 years in hiding to avoid 1 year sentence, then arrested১ বছরের সাজা এড়াতে আত্মগোপনে ৫ বছর, অতপর গ্রেফতার

এক বছর কারাভোগের ভয়ে পাঁচ বছর আত্মগোপন থেকেও রক্ষা পাননি মাহবুবুল আলম (৬০) নামের বগুড়ার এক ব্যবসায়ী। তাকে ঢাকা থেকে গ্রেফতার করেছে বগুড়া সদর থানা পুলিশ।

রোববার বিকেলে মাহবুবুল আলমকে আদালতের মাধ্যমে জেলা কারাগারে পাঠানো হয়।গ্রেফতারকৃত মাহবুবুল শহরের বড়গোলার মৃত মছির উদ্দিনের ছেলে। তিনি বড়গোলা লালমাটির ঘাট এলাকায় রড সিমেন্টের ব্যবসা করতেন।

পুলিশ জানায়, বিভিন্ন ব্যাংক, আর্থিক প্রতিষ্ঠান ও ব্যক্তির কাছ থেকে প্রায় দেড় কোটি টাকা আত্মসাৎ করেন তিনি। এরপর ২০১৭ সালে প্রতিষ্ঠান ফেলে নিরুদ্দেশ হন। তার বিরুদ্ধে অর্থ আত্মসাতের অভিযোগে চারটি মামলা হয়। এর মধ্যে ঢাকা ব্যাংকের মামলায় তাকে এক বছর কারাদণ্ড ও ৮০ লাখ টাকা জরিমানা করা হয়। এরপর থেকেই পুলিশ তাকে খুঁজছিল।

পুলিশ আরো জানায়, পাঁচ বছর পর তথ্য প্রযুক্তির মাধ্যমে পুলিশ তার অবস্থান শনাক্ত করে। এরপর বগুড়া সদর থানার এসআই জাকির আল আহসানের নেতৃত্বে পুলিশের একটি দল শনিবার রাতে ঢাকার ফার্মগেট এলাকায় অভিযান চালান। সেখানে গত পাঁচ বছর ধরে মাহবুবুল ভাড়া বাসায় পরিবার নিয়ে বসবাস করছিলেন। সাজাপ্রাপ্ত মাহবুবুল আলমকে গ্রেফতারের পর বগুড়ায় আনা হয়।

 A Bogra businessman named Mahbubul Alam (60) could not escape from hiding for five years for fear of one year imprisonment.  Bogra Sadar Police arrested him from Dhaka.

 Mahbubul Alam was sent to the district jail through the court on Sunday afternoon.

 The arrested is the son of late Machir Uddin of Baragola in Mahbubul town.  He used to trade in rod cement in Baragola Lalmati Ghat area.

 According to the police, he embezzled around Rs 1.5 crore from various banks, financial institutions and individuals.  Then in 2016 he left the organization and disappeared.  He was charged with four counts of embezzlement.  He was sentenced to one year imprisonment and fined Tk 60 lakh in a Dhaka Bank case.  The police have been searching for him ever since.

 Police also said that after five years, the police identified his location through information technology.  A team of police led by Bogra Sadar Police Station SI Zakir Al Ahsan raided the Farmgate area of ​​Dhaka on Saturday night.  Mahbubul had been living in a rented house with his family for the last five years.  Convicted Mahbubul Alam was brought to Bogra after his arrest.
