The right way to disinfect fruits and vegetables
Keeping yourself and your surroundings clean and germ-free has always been essential. Now that we are fighting a highly contagious virus, it has become even more urgent. Strong immunity and a healthy body are the first steps to protect yourself from epidemics. You can use disinfectant to clean the floor of the house to be safe, but what is the way to disinfect the vegetables and fruits bought from the market?
Market and pathogens
Whether it's an air-conditioned supermarket or a sidewalk, no matter where you buy vegetables and fruits, no one can guarantee that they are germ-free. Vegetables and fruits are collected from different sources and then they reach the market. You do not know how they were transported and how they were kept. Also, the market place is usually humid which is the perfect breeding ground for bacteria. So, it is equally important to disinfect the fruits and vegetables that you bring home.
The Times of India has published five ways in which fruits and vegetables can be disinfected. Find out what they are-
1. Do not refrigerate fruits and vegetables purchased from vendors immediately. Keep them in a separate place in the packet.
2. Place vegetables and fruits in a large container and rinse well with water. You can mix one drop of 50 ppm chlorine in hot water and soak them for a few minutes.

3. Always clean fruits and vegetables with pure water.
4. Disinfectants, cleaning wipes or soaps should not be used to clean fruits and vegetables.
5. After properly cleaning fruits and vegetables, put them in the right place. Refrigerate those that can be refrigerated. Keep things that do not need to be refrigerated in a basket or rack at normal temperatures.

More to do:
* You do not bring shoes inside the house back from the market.
* As soon as you enter the house, wash your hands with soap and water for 30 seconds. Do not touch anything indoors before cleaning your hands.
* Change your clothes when you get home and keep used clothes in a separate washing box or wash them if possible.

* In case of packaged food, disinfect the food packets by wiping them with alcohol-based solution or soap and clean water.
* After washing food items, disinfect your hands and the place where you have cleaned them. In addition to cleaning the sink, clean the floor around it.
