The coach of Mexico stepped down with the responsibility of failure

Mexico did their job well, beating Saudi Arabia 2-1 in the last match of the group.  However, the Mexicans had to return home from the first round of the World Cup after finishing third in the group behind Poland.  Also, after seven consecutive seasons of the World Cup, Mexico left without playing the knock-out stage.  After the match against Saudi Arabia, Mexico's Argentina coach Tata Martino resigned.

The coach of Mexico stepped down with the responsibility of failure

One draw, one loss in the previous two matches in the group stage.  To go to the knock-out, Mexico had to win the last match against Saudi Arabia.  But even if they won, they had to look forward to another group match between Argentina and Poland.  In such an equation, they took the victory, while Poland also lost to Argentina.  However, even with 4 points equal with Mexico, Poland advanced to the knockout stage as the group runner-up.

At the press conference after the match against Saudi Arabia, Tata Martino said, "First of all, I am responsible for our failure and disappointment."  As a person in charge, it has caused me a lot of grief, I am fully responsible for this failure.  As soon as the referee blew the whistle, my contract was over and there was nothing more to do.'
