After 40 years, Iranian women got a chance to sit on the field and watch domestic football
On Thursday two local Iranian football teams Isteghlal FC and Sanat Mes Kerman FC played at Azadi Stadium in Tehran.
And 500 women fans had the opportunity to watch this match sitting on the field. Through this, for the first time in the last 40 years, Iranian women enjoyed domestic football matches sitting on the field.
Iran's semi-official news agency Fars reported this.
However, these women who came to the field did not get the opportunity to enter the stadium through the same gate as the male supporters. Moreover, a separate arrangement was made for them to sit in a corner of the gallery.
Women are banned from entering stadiums in Iran. Although there is no official ban on women going to stadiums. However, after the Islamic Revolution in 1979, women were not allowed to enter the stadium.
Under the pressure of FIFA, the governing body of world football, Iran sometimes allows women to play in the gallery in international matches. However, no permission is given in domestic matches at all. But finally after 40 years, 500 women football fans got that rare opportunity.
